FOR INFANTSAs couples welcome a new infant, their role as teachers and models for their child(ren) begins. The Sacrament of Baptism depends on the values, faith, and practice of parents and of the parish or faith community. In the past, the godparents responded to questions addressed to the infant and, in the infant's name, committed that child to the Christian way of life. Today, the parents are addressed and questioned about their own faith. The parents must honestly commit themselves to continuing to live as active, participating Catholics in regular attendance and reception of the sacraments. As parents request Baptism, they must be able to provide "founded hope" that Catholic belief and practice has a starting point and will continue to grow in their family life. Godparents also should be chosen for their active faith life. We offer Baptism in conjunction with Sunday Eucharist, as often as six times a year.We ask that you first contact the office to set up an appointment with the pastor or pastoral associate. From there you will be asked to contact the director for sacraments of initiation who will enroll you in the next series of classes preparing for Baptism. FOR OLDER CHILDRENDepending upon their age, families with older children may be referred to the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children. This series of classes prepares the child to learn about and appreciate Baptism as a Sacrament for them. The expectation is that parents do look at the place of faith and church in their own lives for they are still the first and best teachers of their children.
